St. Jude's Ranch is once again taking holiday and all occasion cards to be recycled.  St. Jude's is currently accepting cards from Nov. 15, 2009- Feb. 28, 2010.  For details on how to recycle your cards and where to mail them to go to http://stjudesranch.org/help_card.php

St. Jude's also sells Christmas cards 10 for $10 to raise money.

Need to get rid of old Christmas lights?  HolidayLEDs is offering a free Christmas light recycling program.  All you do is load your Christmas lights in a recyclable box and drop them in the mail to the company.  Deadline end of Feb. 2010.  Then they will send you a 15% off coupon so that you can buy new LED lights to save this season.  Check it out at http://www.holidayleds.com/holidayledscom_christmas_light_recycling_program  According to the U.S. department of Energy, if all conventional incandescent holiday lights in the US were replaced with L.E.D. lights, annually energy savings would total 2 billion kilowatt-hours-enough to power almost 200,000 homes for an entire year.  LED lights are also cooler and have a longer life-time.

History

The Adams County Green Coalition, formed in 2008, grew out of an initiative spearheaded by the League of Women Voters of Adams County to encourage citizens and city/county officials to be  environmentally proactive.  The organization is comprised of League members, the University of Illinois Extension Office, the City Planning Office and area citizens that want to assist Adams County, Illinois in becoming a more environmentally conscious county.  The organization is comprised of four different sub-groups that are working in the following areas to promote responsible green living.

1. Building & Development

2. Public Relations

3. Education

4. Recycling Efforts

Our Mission
